Promotion has always been the greatest motivator of an employee to do great work beyond what is expected of him. Promotion means that the employee will have a new work, responsibility, authority, and a higher salary. Everyone one in the company wants to be promoted after several years of work inside the company. Their work is measured by key performance indicators. We have this in my current work but unfortunately last year they didn't give me one important document that is needed for my KPI which didn't go well for me. This is a classic example of a manager that is stupid and didn't know his work. I kept on asking for the document but it was never released to me. KPI play an important role in promoting and other guidelines in promoting an employee. If an employee is ready and his turn for promotion he must be well prepared for the new position and not for the accomplishments that he need to accomplish. Here are some steps to promote an employee.
1. Do not make it hard for them. There are some organization who make it difficult for employees to be promoted. I believe that promotion should be something that will develop the employee and ready for the next position that he will have it doesn't have to be 100 percent ready so long as he has all the necessary competency acquired in work and training he will be set to go. Personal outlook of higher management should not interfere in the process of promotion so that it will not be difficult for the employee to move in to his next position. 2.Promotion announcement must be advanced let us say 6 months before the selection process. This should be done in order for all the qualified employees to prepare for the promotion. In this way equal opportunity will take place that will let employees feel that the company do not favor anyone for a promotion it will motivate them and be more committed with the company because they know that the company is an equal opportunity giver. Six months time is already enough to gather there qualifications and do what they need to do to obtain some necessary requirements for the promotion. Performance in this scenario will increase for the whole company and will let all employees be engaged in their work. 3. The promotion selection process must be objective. In order to show the employees that a promotion is for everyone the selection process must be objective in order to select the best and right applicant for the position. Work politics must be set aside for the sake of the employees and the company. This is what Prime Insight is aiming for a better workplace setting aside politics and putting the organizational interest at the forefront in the selection process of the company in order for the company to have a better future for everyone and the company. 4.The human resources must be at the middle of all the applicants for the position. This is an important part because if it will not be done conflict and trouble will arise because of promotion. From the beginning of the announcement up to the time that there will already be a selected employee they should be at the middle and lookout for conflict and trouble arising from this promotion activity. It is sad to note sometimes that there are employees who fight over promotions which I think is not needed because it just destroy operation of the company. 5.The promoted employee must be supported Given that there is already a selected employee for the position. The higher management should support this employee and at the same time protect him if necessary if there are negative feedback about him. As he learn the ropes and slowly become comfortable with his new position he must be protected and guided. Promotion is an important part of the life cycle of employee inside a company. It makes them feel valued and important once they get promoted and companies should not takeaway that kind of atmosphere because it is the reason why they will work even hard in order to deserve the position. Promotion should not be used to blackmail and deceive employees, It must be applied to make employees better and committed to the company.
