After the two phases of project management is done the third phase of project management is project execution. Project execution is also termed as project implementation. A project plan will remain a plan if there is no execution involve. This phase is all about doing the work necessary in order to complete and finish all the tasks needed to deliver the end results to the client.
The project team are now taking actions based on standards, processes, and frameworks that was established during the initiation and planning phase of the project. This is considered as the longest phase of all the phase in project management but it really depends on the project managers approach to the project. In this phase 80% of the budget of the project is spent. Closely monitoring and controlling the existing budget is necessary to control the cost to avoid overspending and unnecessary expenses. Staying on budget throughout the implementation phase is very important. Team management in the work structure of the project is necessary for the success of the project. The skills and expertise of each worker are taken into consideration during the implementation to produce quality results in each WBS. Keeping the team motivated is essential in order to complete the project. Listening to the team will help the project managers solve project related issues. Open communication in the execution of the project is always maintained in order for communication effectively in all levels of the project between the team and the stakeholders. Timely communication with regards to updates, changes, or cancellations must be observed in order to increase efficiency. Meetings and progress reports are also done in this part of the project. Communication should be clear enough that every employees involved understood the goals and the work to be done. Project deliverables is the reason why there is project execution. All the necessary deliverables identified in the project must be delivered on time and with quality according to the specification and needs of the client. Deliverables are agreed between the company and its client. And client requirements must always be followed to avoid revisions and modifications and unnecessary expense. Monitoring and controlling is part of execution without this project execution will be bound to fail. Monitoring and controlling the team, scope, budget, and work is necessary in order to deliver quality and desired results to the client. Changes are accepted in the execution phase as long as adjustments of deadlines are considered because every changes will entail additional time that will affect the total duration of the project. All the resources of the project is controlled and monitored if it is in accordance with the approved plan. The timely allocation of the resources contributes to the effectiveness and efficiency of the execution of the project. Quality assurance in all areas of the deliverables are properly implemented to maintain product quality output. There are a lot of things going on in project execution. What is important in project execution are the skills and expertise of the people working in every part of the execution in order to deliver results. Leading and managing the project team to the overall completion of the project is VERY necessary. Budget and resources are closely monitored too. The deliverables are inspected for quality.
