There is always a first step in everything that we do. In project management the first stage is the initiation. In this stage the ultimate reason why you are doing the project must be established and the value it will give the employees, company, and organization. In the initial phase you have to make sure that all stakeholders and other people that will be involved and impacted with the project must be persuaded and convinced about the project that you will be initiating because this is one of the factor that will make or break your project specially if the project is big. You also have to discuss to them how the project will be managed and completed. They call this part in the initiation stage as the business case. This is how to start a project right. Another stage in the initiation is the feasibility study. When you hear this words feasibility study it makes you head ache (haha) because we think of feasibility study and long process of research, studying and all related stuff ( you're right haha) however, there are short templates today that they call as modern template of feasibility study. I teach this to my students in the clearest and easiest way for them to understand a feasibility study and its importance in starting a business. Feasibility study is just all about whether or not the project is worth pursuing or not (paper works indeed! haha) but it will be helpful in understanding better your project. Most importantly you have to determine all the resources available in your organization if it is sufficient for the project that you will be implementing. The interplay of all the variables needed in the project must be considered before any implementation of a project. There are still a lot of things to be discussed in this phase and understanding the basic is already an advantage to your project management efforts.
