Its 3am in the morning now and I woke up because this idea was floating in my brain. Organization is all about work. The moment an employee step inside the office it is time to work. The 21st century workplace is demanding because there are lot of work to be done unless some work are just being delegated that gives the employees so many things to be done. I always believe that an organization is a stress free place where people are enjoying there work and want to work that is why it is a stress free place.
So what makes an organization traditional? Why is the traditional method is not the right path today?. 1.Traditional organization view work as physical tiring work. " You are not working if you are tired. We are paying to work therefore you should be stressed and tired." This is how a traditional organization think. Increasing performance and productivity of employees is not done that way because when people are stressed and burned out performance and productivity decreases it will kill there enthusiasm in working. The work will cause physical illness in the long run, if that is your idea of work. Focusing on there welfare will increase performance and productivity. I know it is difficult to do, it is easier said than done. Focusing on the specific duties and responsibilities of each employee which they signed up for is the start of change. 2.Traditional organization makes there employees feel guilty When organization make employees feel guilty about the benefits and bonuses they receive, it is by far a sign of a traditional organization because benefits and bonuses is part of the monetary rewards given to employees making them feel guilty about is not only a sign of traditional organization its a sign manipulation and psychological abuse which should not be done by organizations. 3.Traditional organization do not want to automate The information technology offers systems and processes that makes jobs easier, faster, and with quality. Sometimes I call this the app age and software domination because we are already being ruled by this things which makes our work easier. When organization want to remain the same, using what they only knew for so many years and not using existing technology for the benefit of the organization and its employees so that there services will be more efficient and customer will be satisfied then it is a sign of traditional organization. 4.Traditional organization punishes employees Employees come to work. If they are not working according to what organization expect there must be something wrong. The reason behind it must be known, punishing an employee will not make things better for the organization, for your customer and for that employee. Disciplining and punishing employee is only done when an employee committed a crime, is about to commit a crime. If they are just lazy, there are so many reasons why they became lazy sometimes we fail to know the reason or we are not able to understand because sometimes it is the fault of the organization why they became lazy and then you will punish. How harsh can you get? 5.Tradtional organization doesn't focuses on employees career growth and development Aside from the work that employees are doing, they must grow together with the company. When organization focus only on themselves neglecting the critical role of there employees they become traditional. One of the responsibility of organization is to develop there employees because when they resign they are still able to find work, a better work. 6.Traditional organizations exploit there employees Employees work based on there duties and responsibilities given to them. When the organization exploit them by giving unrelated tasks which is not part of their work. It will be a dilemma to them because what they came for is there duties and responsibilities. Employees will disengaged and disconnect if this will happen,they may follow but it would be insincere. This is not the right path today because of the influence of technology. The employees attitude and character towards work is becoming different. The workforce is being replaced by millennials and generation Z that is why organization must be evolve together with the evolution of technology. Just like the species and organisms they have evolve because there environment is changing, so that they will be able to survive. It is time to change our perspective towards the workplace and make the workplace a better place for employees to work productively.
