I remember when my professor told risks are everywhere it is part of business. Way back 2010 onwards my international clients were from Malaysia, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and United States from website reviews to research we have successfully delivered it to our clients. Some projects were difficult, that I have to refuse no matter how high the payment was. I cannot sacrifice our integrity in the international arena before so i have to say no to some projects. My honesty and integrity were developed in the international arena. Every time I manifest this values to others they will told me that I am young and idealistic but that's how you should be in the international arena.
Today almost all people in the world have access to the internet including those who have bad intentions who just want gain from other people. I have encountered a lot of them today it is always a lessoned learned from me and to all of us. We can control the risks but we cannot totally eliminate it. We will identify today what are those risks involve in transaction internationally. 1. You don't get paid When you are remotely working and you offer your services to international clients one of the major risk is non payment. No matter how good your contract and agreements were sometimes it will be a bad day for you just treat it like a lesson for you and learn from it. Just practice due diligence. If you have doubts don't continue. 2. Misunderstanding There are two reasons why this exist. First is communication barrier and culture barrier. Communication styles of people from other countries are different that is why you have to study and research. There belief and practices are different that is why you need to study and research about there culture. Having an open mind of these differences will mitigate this risk. 3. Time I had two call center trainings around 2009 part of the training was to understand time differences because we don't have the same time with other countries. We have to memorize the various time differences with our potential clients. Sometimes failing to understand the time differences will turn time into a risk but a low risk which is very manageable. Time is a controllable factor, it is easy to adjust both of your time and deadlines when you consider the time difference. 4.Method of payment Yes! this is the crucial part because payment must be immediately received by remote workers. Some method of payment becomes a risk because it takes time before you are able to receive it and charges will apply. Some banks process international payments for a few days before you are able to receive it. PayPal have a lot of requirements and will charge for there services. Negotiate with the quickest payment possible. 5. Internet Connection To some people this is a risk because when you have a meeting and when your connection is slow it will become a risk for your business meeting. In our case, my internet connection is fast, we have stand by generators, and back up computers and laptops so that our work and deadlines will be met for our work and remote work. Before you offer your international clients make sure that you have fast connection and back up ISP provider. 6. Illicit Jobs Some jobs are illegal in nature. You have to know if your client is legitimate or not. Because if you find a fraudulent client chances are you will be included if things go wrong. Make sure that your clients business is legitimate. We don't accept illegal businesses or businesses which will harm other people. I came across a client that would like to promote gambling to other people. I automatically declined the offer because it is against my values. My philosophical values is we will help you so that your business can help other people prosper or your clients will be satisfied. If we will not find clients because of this values so be it! We will not accept illicit jobs no matter how high the payment is. We have very few clients because we choose our clients. Our view when it comes to competition in the industry. We see our competitors as our partners in helping our clients. Our clients are also our partners.
